ZanaAfrica x Your Super: Supporting Adolescent Girls In Kenya
This month, we’re partnering with the ZanaAfrica Foundation to help young women reach their full potential. Learn more about this amazing non-profit organization and how you can help!
For the entire month of March, your purchase can make a difference in a young woman’s life.
Your Super is partnering with the ZanaAfrica Foundation – a non-profit organization that equips young girls with the tools they need to safely navigate puberty and helps them reach their full potential, here’s how…
THE ISSUE
In Kenya, adolescent girls aren’t given proper reproductive and sexual health education. In fact, 1 in 4 girls aren't aware that they can get pregnant once starting their periods, and 95% of girls aren’t aware that rape is a human rights violation.
According to ZanaAfrica “current statistics show that two in three Kenyan women and girls cannot regularly manage their periods with safe and quality menstrual health products and that four in five do not have access to fact-based health knowledge to make informed decisions about their health and lives. This is reflected in part by Kenya’s high rates of teenage pregnancy (40% of girls by age 19) and high dropout rates (25% of girls by the time they reach puberty).”
On top of that, “65% of girls in Kenya cannot regularly access sanitary pads to manage their periods.”
Luckily, ZanaAfrica has a solution.
THE VISION
Since 2007, the ZanaAfrica Foundation has supported over 50,000 girls by giving them the resources, knowledge, and products they need to stay healthy and safe.
These tools include sanitary pads, rights-based reproductive health education delivered through safe mentors, and social and behavior change content to support girl’s health, safety, and resilience.
Their dedication to providing accessible health care is helping young girls make informed decisions about their bodies so they have the confidence to reach for the stars. To learn more about their impact, click here.
YOU SHOP, WE GIVE
This month, when you purchase a Moon Balance Mix or Superwoman Bundle, we’ll donate 100% of the proceeds to ZanaAfrica up to $100,000.
You’ll get the benefits of improving your health while empowering young girls from across the globe. (Sounds like a win-win to us!)
Women's empowerment is very near and dear to Your Super Co-Founder Kristel de Groot's heart, and this new partnership is just one of the many ways that the company gives back to and supports women year-round. In 2020, 1,572,121 million life-saving food bars were donated to malnourished children and pregnant and lactating women across the world in partnership with Action Against Hunger. Additionally, 1,800 female farmers in Ghana earn extra income by harvesting Baobab – one of Your Super's key ingredients. These are just a few examples!
Kristel also implemented a Moon Day Policy for Your Super employees who identify as women, allotting them 12 "Moon Days" per year to be used during their menstrual cycles. Female employees can choose to work from home on the couch, cancel meetings or simply take the day off.
We’re honored to continue our giving-back efforts and making the world a safer and healthier place for girls and women everywhere.
